Hearing loss can affect anyone, at any age from newborns to older adults and often develops so gradually that it goes unnoticed until it begins to impact daily communication, relationships, and quality of life. At CENT (Center of ENT), Prof. Dr Khalid Cheema brings over four decades of clinical experience to accurately diagnose the type and severity of your hearing loss and create a personalised treatment plan to restore and protect your hearing.

What is Hearing Loss?

Hearing loss occurs when there is a partial or complete inability to hear sounds in one or both ears. It can be sudden or gradual, mild or severe, and temporary or permanent, depending on the underlying cause. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent further deterioration and to protect your ability to communicate, work, and enjoy everyday life.

FAQ

It depends on the cause. Conductive hearing loss (e.g., from earwax or infection) is often treatable and reversible. Sensorineural hearing loss is usually permanent but can be effectively managed with hearing aids or, in select cases, cochlear implants.

Hearing should be tested at birth (newborn screening), whenever symptoms arise at any age, and regularly after age 50 as part of routine health checks, since age-related hearing loss often develops gradually.

No. Hearing tests such as Pure Tone Audiometry and Tympanometry are painless, non-invasive, and typically take only a few minutes.

Some causes can be prevented through protecting your ears from loud noise, treating ear infections promptly, and avoiding prolonged use of ototoxic medications without medical supervision. Age-related and genetic hearing loss cannot always be prevented but can be managed effectively if caught early.
